Descriptive Book Covers Many Aspects of Fusion

This is the text that is currently being used for the undergraduate class "Principles of Controlled Thermonuclear Fusion" NPRE421, at the University of Illinois. Inside you will find that a good background in fusion fundamentals as well as plasma physics are presented in Chapters 1-10. The remainder of the text relates every substantial area of fusion research going on in the world, from Tokamaks to Muon Catalyed Fusion ala 1970. While that may seem like a long time ago and outdated, the putrid level of Fusion research in the U.S. over the last 40 years has enabled this work to be as relevant today as it was in 1970. I have yet to come across another tome with as much breadth and depth as Dolan has. Having met the author I am hopeful that an update is forthcoming but at nearly 1000 pages already, where would you put it?

About the Author
Michael F. Sciortino Sr. is founder and CEO of Gratitude Marketing™, a firm specializing in helping advisors grow their practices through carefully nurturing long-term relationships. He began his career in 1983 as an account executive with E. F. Hutton, where he led the office in opening new account relationships. Following that position, Mike transitioned into wholesaling with Colonial Investments and Pilgrim Funds, where he was recognized for leading the most-improved sales team. He then went on to spend 13 years as regional VP with Oppenheimer Funds. While at Oppenheimer, Mike conducted seminars to assist financial advisors in building their practices, and his territories surpassed the company’s growth rate every year. Most recently, Mike served as executive vice president and head of distribution for an RIA. Mike is a graduate of the University of New Orleans with a bachelor of science degree in finance.

Although this book has great application in the financial services industry

Gratitude Marketing is a concise blueprint or road map on how to successfully build and maintain lasting,
long-term relationships through the use of practical, time-tested concepts that too often get overlooked in
today's world dominated by social media.
Although this book has great application in the financial services industry, Mike's invaluable strategies are
transferable to almost any marketing effort in any industry involving client interaction.
This well-conceived book is a terrific resource for any professional looking to build and maintain meaningful,

Great Book, Worth Reading!

Gratitude Marketing is a great resource that successfully guides you in ways to connect with clients and build and retain your business rather than just sell a product. Over the years I have considered myself rather good at networking and relationship building. After reading this book I have found new ways to enhance my personal business model. The premise is simple, by expressing appreciation to your clients and reinforcing that you truly care about their experience working together, you will create clients for life. Over time I believe by incorporating these ideas, it will change and help grow my business while keeping a loyal clientele. Gratitude Marketing is a quick read with many common sense ideas that can have an immediate impact on your practice. I would recommend it to every salesperson that is serious about growing there business.

Having been acquainted with Mike and his stellar career, it does not surprise me that his book has arrived on the Best Seller List. All sales rep's, especially financial advisers, have two mandates for success. The first is providing a solution for a clients' problem with honest diligence; the second is allowing a trusting relationship to be built linking the adviser and the client for a lasting relationship. Particularly, financial advisers are somewhat unique as once an implementation of recommendations are made the outcome is exposed to a plethora of exogenous factors. Like Mike tells us in Gratitude Marketing, a lasting relationship begins with "total, respect, understanding, sincerity, thoughtfulness," TRUST, and deepening the relationship with displays of kindness preserves the path. About the Author

�� John E. Conklin, professor of sociology at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, was born in Oswego, New York, in 1943 and raised in Syracuse, New York.� After earning a bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 1965, he completed his doctorate at Harvard University in 1969 and did research at Harvard Law School's Center for Criminal Justice for one year before taking a position at Tufts, where he now offers courses in criminology, crime and the media, sociology of law, and sociology of sexual behavior.

�� Professor Conklin's first book, Robbery and the Criminal Justice System (1972), was based on data he gathered in Boston.� He also wrote The Impact of Crime (1975), a study of community reactions to crime, and "Illegal but Not Criminal": Business Crime in America (1977). The first of nine editions of Criminology appeared in 1981.� Art Crime--a study of theft, forgery, and fraud in the art world--was published in 1994.� His New Perspectives in Criminology (Allyn & Bacon, 1996) is an edited collection of papers published by leading criminologists during the 1990s.� In 2003, Allyn & Bacon published Professor Conklin's Why Crimes Rates Fell, an examination of the reasons that crime declined so dramatically in the 1990s.

A Great Teaching Resource...

"Criminology", co-authored by Leonard Glick and J. Mitchell Miller, is a comprehensive and well-written entry-level guide to the complex and controversial topic of criminology as practiced in the United States. "Criminology" is specifically organized to facilitate the work of the instructor and the student.

Each of fourteen chapters covers basic definitions, theory, and observed behavior for some category of criminal activity and/or the police, judicial, and correctional response. The basic text presents narrative, graphics, and focused text boxes, augmented by excerpts from a variety of authors with more indepth analysis of various problems. Each chapter comes with self-testing questions to reinforce learning. The layout of each chapter easily translates to a classroom presentation.

Presentation for the most part is even-handed, in recognition that criminology does not have perfect analyses or answers for what is very complex human behavior. Multiple theories of criminology are presented without predetermined selection of a single answer. Contrasting arguments for and against incarceration, capital punishment, and punitive sentences for drug-related offenses provide a good basis for further exploration in a classroom or seminar environment. The focus is on the United States, although some anecdotal context is provided for other nations. The text has been updated to include consideration of crimes of recent or renewed emphasis such as international terrorism and human trafficking.

"Criminology" is very highly recommended as a great teaching resource for college entry-level criminology classes.

I needed this book for class, but didn't want to pay the hefty price tag attached to it. So I ended up buying used on Amazon for the first time. I saved well over $100 doing this. The book was in great condition. No pen marks or highlights. Definitely recommend!! I cant tell enough people how much money you save when you use Amazon as an alternative for buying and renting textbooks.

Too many mistakes

This book has an extraordinary number of errors. The synthesis of methamphetamine (scourge of the west) is described according to a method used by bikers in the seventies. Rape is defined as forcible sex between a man and a woman. One of the causes of violence is a high sugar diet. Feminism can lead to violence. Descriptions of criminal law are weak and full of errors. This is a bad book.

Good book, covers many aspects of culture

I used the book in my Latin American Cult. and Civ. class. Overall, I liked it. It covers a good range of topics, besides the classics (such as politics, history, economy, etc). The questions at the end of every chapter are clear and a good help for students. I have used the first 300 pages or so as "class material", the rest were part of individual presentations.
One negative aspect, I don't consider necesary to have a new edition every year. it is very expensive for students. Probably, it would be nice to have a new edition every 5 years, the changes on politics, economy, etc, could be covered by emails (as it is now, too). E-mails updating material makes more sense to me that new editions every year. I plan to stick with the cuarta edicion for more years.

Kindle version is lacking

I just bought the Kindle edition of this book and it is really poorly put together. The whole format looks like a draft of a book, not a published book. Most importantly I see NO PAGE NUMBERS! There is a table of contents - but this does not include page numbers either. Having no page numbers makes it very hard to use this book in class and to find homework assignments. I'm hoping there is a way to return kindle books!

Not bad

I purchased this book to study for the patent bar. I agree that, like many other prep books out there, this book will not be sufficient in and of itself. That said, the MPEP is a thousand pages long and unless you plan to read through the whole thing, you will need a succinct and concise summary. This book does a good job of breaking things down. To best prepare, you will need to:
1) read through the prep book;
2) work through all the questions;
3) work through several practice exams.

I studied for about three weeks and passed on the first try using this book, the MPEP online at the USPTO website, and old practice exams.

OK but not sufficient

This is a good book if you want to learn the basics. I highly doubt the veracity of the the 5-star review for this book. The biggest problem with this book is that it is not sufficient in and of itself for passing the patent bar exam. Another problem is that it will be out of date very soon given the patent reform act that just passed. Therefore, if you are not planning on taking the exam for some time, I would wait or buy another guide that provides free updates.

The best way to study for the exam (in my opinion) is by going through the old questions and answers. There are other guides out there that actually provide all the old questions and are frequently updated (therefore you will be safe when the PTO decides to test new material). Other patent bar guides also cost less. Therefore, overall this book is 3-start product.

Excellent "Poor Man's Guide"

I thoroughly enjoyed this guide and I highly recommend it. While I had a fairly rudimentary knowledge of patent law prior to reading this guide, I was able to pass the exam about a month ago on my first try. It was a great alternative to the PLI course, which I had no desire to dish out thousands of dollars for. I would suggest reading it over a couple times, working out all of the practice problems, and supplementing your study with practice tests and reading relevant sections from the MPEP (currently tested version). I would also suggest working on your MPEP searching skills - this will be a big help on test day since the exam has changed quite a bit since 2003.

When the law changes next year, I expect this guide to become obsolete instantly. I would hope that an updated version is released in the future to address these changes.
