About the Author

Kevin O'Hara, Professor of Silviculture, University of California- Berkeley

Kevin O'Hara is Professor of Silviculture at the University of California - Berkeley where he teaches field and classroom courses in forestry. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington and taught for 8 years at the University of Montana before joining the University of California faculty. He is the author of over 120 scientific papers and served on the editorial boards or as associate editor of the European Journal of Forest Research, Forestry, and the Journal of Forestry. His research focuses on a variety of aspects of forest stand dynamics and their application to silviculture. However, the bulk of his research focuses on multiaged stand dynamics and silviculture. He has published over 40 papers on the topic of multiaged silviculture and has served as the leader of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) Uneven-aged Silviculture Research Group (IUFRO 1.05).

Best Devotional Bible!

I have recently purchased the Women of Faith Devotional Bible. Recently I started reading a new christian fiction author, Colleen Coble. I noticed that her book said she belonged to the women of faith. I went to the website and discovered that this is a group of christian fiction authors. I joined the book club, and later found this devotional bible for sale in a local book store. I checked on amazon, and I had to order it. The version I ordered is the NKJV, which follows very closely to KJV. I highly recommend this to anyone needing daily devotional. God bless and keep you all!

This Bible is easy to read and understand. The inserts from the Women of Faith speakers are messages of faith and inspiration. I would recommend this bible to all women. I gave my original to a friend and just had to get me another one.

JOHN E. EXNER Jr., PHD, is Professor Emeritus in Psychology at Long Island University in New York; Executive Director of the Rorschach Workshops, which he founded in 1968; and Curator of the Rorschach Archives and Museum in Bern, Switzerland. He is past president of the International Rorschach Society and has received numerous awards including the American Psychological Association's Distinguished Contributions to Knowledge Award in 1997. I stumbled over the book "The Rorschach" here on Amazon, written by John E. Exner Jr., PhD professor Emeritus in Psychology at Long Island University in New York, on Amazon.com. I decided to buy it. Dr. Exner is the executive director of the Rorschach Workshop, which he founded in in 1968, and Curator of the Rorschach Archives and museum in Bern, Switzerland. He is past president of the International Rorschach Society.

Dr. Exner starts out by sketching out the history and development of the Rorschach; the origin of the test and Rorschach's work. From there he guides us through the development of the Rorschach test itself, the concept of projection and projective techniques as well as the comprehensive system. He winds up the first chapter with focusing on controversy, criticism and decisions. Part two is a natural continuation of chapter one, guiding the reader through administration and scoring of the Rorschach test. Next follow coding and criteria, discussed of no less than 33 pages: the form determinant, the movement determinant, active-passive superscripts, chromatic color determination, achromatic color determination. The form dimension response, pair and reflection response and the blend response. Dr. Exner winds up the second chapter by putting search light on interscorer agreement and references.

In Part three Dr. Exner bores into the Nature of the Test, by exposing Rorschach's Concept of the Method and the Rorschach as a Decision-Making Task. The book continues with the Range of Potential Responses, flowed by The Response Process, The Input Process and The Classification Process. He winds up chapter three by opening up for the reader, the adult non patient sample, design for collecting non patient data and the characteristics of the non-patient sample. Whole of Part four is dedicated to the interpretation of the Rorschach test. Here Dr. Exner starts with general guidelines regarding interpretation, followed by controls and stress tolerance, institutionally related stress, affect and information processing. On page 364 Dr. Exner starts up with describing the process of cognitive mediation, ideation and self-perception. Now follows a thirty page sub chapter: Interpersonal Perception and Behavior. That is Rorschach variables related to interpersonal perception, interpretive routine, research and concepts related to interpersonal variables, aggressive movement, cooperative movement, personal responses and isolation index and references.

The book is beautifully concluded with the sub chapter The Complete Description; the suicide constellation, the perceptual-thinking index and building a complete description. For the last three decades, Dr. John Exner's Comprehensive System has been the leading approach worldwide to administering and interpreting the Rorschach test. This new edition provides updated research and information on administering, scoring and interpreting the Rorschach test, as well as new normative data, coverage of recent controversies and criticisms of the test, and illustrative case studies. I have read Dr. Exner's book and can recommend it for both professionals in psychiatry and medicine as well as lay people with interest for this subject.

Systemic Psychoanalysis

The book is a must have for complete understanding of this projective test. Which is in my opinion, a powerful projective test. It involves a bit of hard work but it is not beyond the grasp of the young or mature psychologists. Today a software is available that will help with mechanical tasks of the test, recommended! However, doing the test without software really pushed me to think about my patient's responses and their non-verbal lenguage during the application of the cards, the caculation of the different aspect of personality explored, and I found some excellent views of human personality along its pages. The book is a must have as it guides you through the analytical elements of the test. It is one of my basic tests in my practice. Even for the psychologist that is more CBT instead of a psychoanalyst, the insights from the test are greatly helpful. I used CBT too. PS. I am a lacanian analyst.

Must have for Rorschach training and use!

This book is an excellent tool to have while you are learning the Rorschach or to keep on your shelf if you are scoring. I learned the Rorschach already but I only had the Exner Workbook (another must have). I bought this book b/c I will be taking a comprehensive exam which includes Rorschach interpretation and scoring questions. It breaks down the structural summary very well and highlights what scores to concentrate on and what they mean. I have not begun practicing the scoring yet but I know from looking through the book there are numerous examples to use. If you are learning the Rorschach or are in a profession where you are administering it, this and the Exner Workbook are 2 books that you MUST MUST have.

Riches Brew

A mysterious, ancient, and at the same time “right now” recipe of riches bubble and brew in this new offering from Camelia Elias. The Oracle Travels Light is an earthy, evocative poetics of spellcrafting with cards in particular and magic in general. The magical path has been presented as an art-form, as well as a powerful action-form before, but rarely, in my experience, to such telling effect. Other books I have read about magic are written in prose and, while I am “in” them, feel prosaic even while being informative. This one also is written in prose, but while I was “in” it I felt as if I was wandering within a poem, not trying to follow some articulate but sterile explication or set of instructions. This one feels scholarly, yes, but, also muddy and sticky, like the shaman as she imparts the secret knowledge as she is rising from the swamp. The book itself is a potent spell well crafted.

The best book on magic I have read in ages!

With this book, as RL Burnside liked to say, “we’re cooking with gas!” I’ve not read a book on magic in a single day in twenty years, until today.

I have read, I’d guess, several hundred books on or related to magical theory & practice, some directly, some indirectly. If asked to recommend a book, while the context is nearly always important, the first thing that has come to mind is Visual Magick: A Manual of Freestyle Shamanism by Jan Fries. This has been the case for decades. While there may be others books in this class, I really haven’t run across them. Until now.

The Oracle Travels Light by Camelia Elias is simply the best book I’ve read in ages on magic. Not a ’101’, not an ‘advanced text’, not a ‘complete system’, not a grimoire, how to, or a guide to doing it the right way…this books is the actual real deal.

This is a book for those who would risk a finger at the loom with the Weavers.

What I mean by that is that The Oracle Travels light is one of the few books that actually is about magic. Not how it once was, how it should be, how to do it safely, how to walk the well trod-path. It speaks to walking the path as you might actually find it (you, not me, Aunt Edna or Cousin Jack, or that Supreme Magus who lives down the lane), and to asking real questions (instead of the usual ones that lead to a forgone conclusion to suit yourself or the writer’s perception of what is ‘right and good’).

This book is a stick of dynamite disguised as a cigar waiting to be lit with three matches from the hands of a dead man.

As such, it won’t be for all. Like anything exquisite, it will not suit all palates. As it should be.

While the whole book is fantastic, the first book on magic I read in one day in many years. I’ll only address the contents of the last two chapters:

“The Natural Magic: Four Rituals and a Soul” chapter gives examples of elemental workings based upon three card draws that might seem cryptic upfront, but taken together are a beautiful guide. Guide, not recipe. And that is perhaps what I love about this book. There is no hand holding, babying, recipes. Examples, yes. Food for thought, yes. Pure brilliance in spades.

The last chapter of the book “Spellcraft: Basic Principles’ is a goldmine for those who approach it openly and without prejudice. There is far, far more here than meets the eye, a depth of touch and most importantly breath that is again, a fantastic guide for the one ready to do their own work. Bits on binding, blessing, bidding, invocation, love spells, all perfect, all enough to lure the reader in and stir them to their own creations. Elias recommends three writers on spell craft- Jan Fries, Paul Huson, and Austin Osman Spare- which should give an idea of the angle of approach that she takes. But her methods are quite her own, sharp and incisive.

The Oracle Travels Light is nearly a joke of a title, as the books is so very dense with magic! Not heavy, but outright heady.

This is a beautiful book. Beautifully written, with clear photographs from the ultimately rare Marseille deck of Carolus Zoya (ca. 1790) and illustration and sigils in Elias own hand.

Once in awhile a book comes along that is not your typical "how to" book. The author combines magic, cards, intellect, simplicity, common sense and wisdom together to create a gorgeous little book that comes to life. This is a book that I will be keeping in my library and passing down to my daughter.
