“I can't help unless you let me.”

“I might be alone, but at least I'm safe.”
Martin Painter has been a recluse since his parents died when he was seventeen. Sure, he has money and a sprawling house in an upscale neighborhood, but material things can't patch the holes in his heart. When his sister drags him to a charity auction, the last thing he expects to win is a date with a handsome stranger. He can feel the attraction starting, but it's pointless, isn't it? He's better off alone. He's too awkward for a platonic "date," let alone real love.

“Do you ever wonder if you made a wrong turn somewhere?”
Charity owner Travis Cole loves his work even if he misses the world of haute cuisine. But his charity is hemorrhaging money. He throws an auction to scrape together extra funds, and up on the auction block? Cooking lessons and a dinner with himself. He never thought the winner would be a man. And stranger still, he never expected to care so much about the soft-spoken, sad-eyed loner who won him.

“We've both got too much to lose, don't we?”
Martin isn't sure he's capable of love anymore. Travis isn't sure he's capable of loving a man. But they can't deny it: there's something between them as powerful as gravity, even if it's just a desire to help one another let go of the past. While Travis teaches Martin how to cook, can they teach each other to be happy?

Warms smiles across my face
By mgoodwi1
Just what I needed. A slow-burn GFY story. I liked that it was slow-paced allowing the tension between the two MCs to build. There wasn't excessive swearing and sex scenes either. In fact, there were only 2 sex scenes that we the readers were shown. One was strictly oral. This worked for me because it showed the gradual progression of the relationship. The story is told from alternating POVs which allows us to get into both characters minds. There was very little angst and an HEA. The only thing that I wish was different was the second sex scene. Jeremy was the top which is fine but since he was the straight one originally, I would've liked to know how he felt being a bottom. The author alludes to previous sexual encounters that we were not shown where Jeremy was the bottom. Overall, I really like the story and may read it again if I just want to read a slow-burn, HEA romance.

Sandra's View "Sweet, kind of awkward Romance"
By Sandra
The book had 2865 locations on my kindle. The book was about 2 men, Martin and Travis. Martin was a 31 year old gay man, who was good with numbers. Travis was a straight man and the CEO, of a charity. Martin makes a bid at a charity auction and wins a lessons and a dinner date with Travis. The book contained a few kisses, an oral sex scene and an anal sex scene, near the end. The characters were ok. Martin was a wealthy, shy, lonely, anxiety ridden man, who had lost his parents at a young age. Travis was an easy going, understanding and extremely patient man. I liked the slow build up to a sexual relationship between the 2 men. I did not like the fact, that there did not seem to be any heat or fire between the men. Travis did not struggle wth his sexuality, he just decided, Martin likes me, lets give it a try and see, where this thing goes.

A slow and sweet romance
By E L-G
There is kind of a "young" quality that Martin & Travis have. It makes sense: Martin has kind of sequestered himself at home, and is emotionally stunted & Travis has a slow awakening that he's attracted to a man. How there story developed gave them room for a kind of sweet, innocent exploration of each other as people. It isn't super heavy in the romance, but it felt genuine to me. Neither one of them was really looking to be in a relationship, so they both really have a slow awakening that was fun to witness.
